social media and marketing
Social media and marketing can be a bit confusing.
Basically it consists of online tools and websites that encourage
people to interact with companies, brands and each other and form
communities by sharing content. Social media is a two-way communication
stream, whereas traditional media publishes news or messages through
a one-way communication stream to the mass market, e.g. radio,
television and newspaper.
Social media is really a bit of an umbrella term. It includes
interactive broadcasts such as blogs and podcasts, as well as
social networking websites - all marketing tools for your business.
These usually allow visitors to become users or members, create
profiles, and upload and share content.
Popular social networks include Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin,
Pinterest, Google +, Bebo, Delicious, Digg, MySpace, and Yahoo!
Buzz. You may feel that they aren't relevant to your business,
but you can use them to your advantage.
There are hundreds around but we've taken a look at Facebook,
Pinterest and Twitter in a bit more detail and covered a couple
of other social media related items of interest in one of our
articles.
We've also covered blogging in a separate article.
